I have a walk in study/den that provided by our firm
aquabot and I want to turn into a bedroom in Arizona. When it comes time to sell the house, I want this to be a real 4th bedroom. What has to be done? Does it need a closet? Do I need to wire a smoke alarm to the rest of the house? Can the closet be a portable job from Ikea? Anything else to think about?
What does the linkto Aquabot (a pool cover company) have to do with the bedroom question? Live link removed.
To qualify as a bedroom in Arizona there must be a permanent closet and for a smoke alarm, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), minimum protection requires a smoke detector outside each sleeping area.
Mike, you forgot, all bedrooms need to have a window or fire escape ingress/egress of a minimum of 2' x 2' and no more than 36" to sill.

the NFPA is one thing, a more important code listing would be the International Building Code or International Residential Code (IBC/IRC) which most local county agencies strictly adhere too.
